Day Care
When parents choose The Garden City
Playschool for
their child, it is important to understand how we operate since we are
a day care center and an English school for young children.
Philosophy:
We focus on the growth and development of the whole child:
emotional, social, physical, intellectual, cultural and morals/ethics.
We believe that this happens through:
Care, love, and understanding of the young child
Dedication to the young child’s total well-being
Development of self-confidence
Protection and guidance in the areas of health, safety and morals
Promotion of positive social relations, manners and morals
Development of friendships, tolerance and understanding of others
Support for the child’s home language and culture
Nuturance of friendships, kindness and understanding of others
We welcome children and families from all other countries and cultures.
License: The Garden City Playschool is
licensed by the Regional State Administrative Agencies (AVI)
as required by Finnish daycare center laws governing the health, safety
and well-being of the children.
Laws require:
- accident insurance for the children,
- hygiene standards,
- a ratio of 1 adult for 7 children, ages 3-7,
- outside playtime everyday two times.
Eligible parents receive government subsidies to reduce monthly fees.
Early Registration: Please ask for a
confirmed place in advance for your child through these web-pages
(Contact us).
Enrollment: When you
enroll your child, the enrollment time is for 11 months.
Our philosophy is that we are open 11 months per year and we require
your commitment for enrollment from August 1- June 30. If
openings permit, your child is welcome to enroll mid-year as well.
Staff: Our dedicated, qualified,
international staff is a mixture of nationalities and training. All of
our staff members are required to have first aid training and are
trained as kindergarten/classroom teachers, nursery nurses or
“sosionom”, or assistants.
We try to have at least one native English speaker with each childrenīs
group.
The children respond to the teacher/caregiver as a
- kind, compassionate, understanding guide and authority figure
- setting up the relationship for the daily care and
- trust needed to take care of and guide the young child.
The children are happy at the playschool because we believe children
learn by example.
Our staff is happy, caring, kind and yet responsible, in charge of
every child’s well being.
We believe that the adults structure the
children’s world and the children respond appropriately.
